This was a fantastic PD day for the WGHS staff. Inspired by Mark Osborne's talk about why E-Learning is essential for our students, and the range of etools that he showed us that can help you to achieve various outcomes. Staff then worked on embedding E-learning in our senior levels years 11-13. The afternoon was busy creating learning activities and assessments utilising eTools. Thanks so much to Mark and Jo for sharing so much wonderful knowledge with us and for guiding us through our planning. Here is a link to our planning day programme and planning documents. Here is another link to the bookings page to book me to help you over the next couple of weeks in getting ready for 2017. Thanks to Christine Maud who has found us these instructions for using Kahoot. Kahoot is a fantastic online quiz etool. It can be used in mulitple ways to enhance the learning of your students. It can be used for:
On the 31st October PD afternoon, Raewyn Donnell ran a google drive, docs and classroom session for beginners. She has put a range of instruction sheets together on various skills and tools within the google drive and docs environment. While her session was for beginners, some of the instructions are still useful for those more experienced staff to have a look at, in particular the one on voice typing. These are listed below
These are the notes from Susana Tomaz's Stop Motion PD session on 31st October 2016. Through creating stop motion video's students have the opportunity to clarify their understanding of a concept, work on explaining a concept succinctly and they can develop a new digital skill set. Scaffold this process by using group work in the early stages provides students the ability to continue to develop their collaborative skills as well.
Here is what some students recently said when reflecting on using stop motion video as learning tasks. When asked what they enjoyed about it they said: "I felt like it was a fun creative way that made me genuinely interested in the topic." "The creativity and hands in learning rather then just listening and writing" "I enjoyed learning about DNA and showing others what i see in my head" "It was good to map out ourselves how protein synthesis occurs, it encouraged better understanding." "The way this process ensured a correct understanding" "Being able to do it in a group, which enabled me to understand the process better, as if I had any misconceptions they were able to correct me." When asked Did it help you learn?, students said: "Yes, as it helped me understand the process in more detail." "Yes the protein synthesis process and when the different types of RNA are used." The task was on photosynthesis. "Yes it helped me understand why the process functioned that way" "I understood more about the transcription and translation."
This is the PD session by Frances Cross on 31st October 2016. A good look at how you can use google apps to help support critical thinking in your classroom.
These are the notes for Claire Guy's PD session on 31st October 2016. It gives instructions for how to share google folders with your students.
These are the notes from Polly Stuart's PD session on 31st October 2016. It was focused on Google Forms & Flubaroo for Self Marking Quizes.
