The process I used for this was the following:
- Go through each section of the appraisal with the staff member. Firstly checking that it is completed
- Then having any discussions around each section that might be appropriate. By going through the appriasal from the order of
- Examination of results.
- Goals - what were they, have they achieved their goals, if not - does it need to be a focus for the following year, or if they have met it what are their next steps etc.
- Classroom Observation - what were some interesting findings. Were there any significantly worrying negative findings that need to be addressed in the following year?
- Student Evaluations - what were some interesting findings. Were there any significantly worrying negative findings that need to be addressed in the following year?
- TAI - what was the outcome? what did they learn? will they follow on with this or try something new?
- E-Learning - have they met their 25% goal for the appropriate year levels they taught? - what are their next steps to improve E Learning in their teaching?
- PD - what areas do they feel they need PD on in the next year? This could be identified with regards to student evaluations, classroom evalutations, TAI or E-Learning.
- Followed by all other sections
- Upon finishing these discussions about how the year has progressed for them as a teacher we then complete the appraisal with filling in the summary document together. Following on from the discussions we have had, come to an agreement about what is written in the summary document.
What I am interested in knowing, is how others approach this appraisal process as an appraiser and what appraisee's might want in an appraiser. Please comment below with your thoughts.
